Kenya to host first AI Everything x GITEX conference in Nairobi

Kenya will host the inaugural AI EVERYTHING KENYA x GITEX KENYA next month in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s position as East Africa’s leading technology and innovation hub.

The three-day event, scheduled for May 19 to 21 in Nairobi, will bring together government officials, investors, innovators, policymakers and technology firms to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in Africa.

The conference is organised by KAOUN International in partnership with the Office of the Special Envoy on Technology.  Activities will begin with the Inclusive AI Summit at the Sarit Expo Centre on May 19 before moving to the main exhibition and conference at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre from May 20 to 21.

Speaking in Nairobi while reading the statement, Philip Thigo, Kenya’s Special Envoy for Technology, said the event marks an important moment for the country and the region’s digital future.

“This is not just about hosting another technology conference. It is about creating a platform where Africa can shape its own AI systems, define its own priorities and ensure innovation works for our people,” Thigo said.

Thigo, an award-winning technology and public policy expert and the Republic of Kenya’s first Special Envoy for Technology, said Kenya is seeking to position itself as a key player in the global AI ecosystem while ensuring local innovation remains central.

According to organisers, the conference will focus on sectors including agriculture, healthcare, banking, education, cybersecurity, climate resilience and digital public services. Roundtable discussions will address AI governance, financing, talent development and digital sovereignty as African governments increasingly look to regulate and adopt emerging technologies.

“Kenya is uniquely positioned to lead these conversations because we have already demonstrated what digital transformation can achieve through innovation, mobile technology and entrepreneurship,” said Thigo.   The summit will also feature investor forums, startup showcases and networking sessions aimed at linking African innovators with regional and international investors.

Organisers say the event comes as Africa’s artificial intelligence market is projected to reach US$15.5 billion by 2030, presenting new economic opportunities across the continent. International firms expected to participate include Cisco, Fortinet, Mastercard, ASUS, Odoo and Zoho.

The inaugural AI EVERYTHING KENYA x GITEX KENYA is expected to further cement Nairobi’s role as one of Africa’s leading technology capitals.
